Gingerbread

Yield: 16 servings
Oven Temperature: 350 degrees F

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter or shortening
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup molasses
1 cup hot water

Gingerbread

Directions:
Using an electric or hand mixer, cream butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add beaten egg. Measure and sift dry ingredients. Combine molasses and hot water.

Add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with the liquid ingredients. Add small amounts at a time, and beat after each addition until smooth.

Pour the batter into a greased 8x8 baking dish and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Serve cake warm with a generous spoon of whipped cream.
