Apple Pie with Walnut Streusel

Directions:
For Streusel Topping:
In a small bowl, use a fork or your fingertips to blend the butter, brown sugar, and flour until smooth and crumbly; blend in the nuts. Cover the streusel topping and refrigerate until ready to use.

For Apple Filling:
Peel and core apples. Cut them into 1/2 inch wedges and place them in a large bowl. Toss the apples with the remaining filling ingredients to coat. Set aside.

Prepare 1 basic pie crust, roll out the dough and place it in a 9 inch pie plate. Let the dough overhang the rim of the pie plate; do not trim or flute the edges.

Spoon the apple filling into the pie shell and fold the dough over the top of the apples, leaving the center of the pie exposed. Bake the pie in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour (pie will not be completely cooked), and remove from oven.

Crumble the chilled streusel topping over the center of the pie, breaking up any large pieces. Brush the crust with milk and sprinkle the crust with sugar. Bake the pie for 30 minutes more, or until crust is golden and filling is bubbling. Cool pie on a rack. Serve pie warm or at room temperature.
