Prepare 1 basic pie crust, roll out the dough and place it in a 9 inch pie plate. Using an electric or hand mixer, beat eggs slightly, then beat in remaining ingredients.
Pour into pastry-lined pie pan. To prevent spills, cover a pizza pan or cookie sheet with foil and place on oven rack. Put the pie pan on the foil-lined sheet and then fill with the egg mixture.)
Bake the pie for 20 minutes in a 425 degree oven. Then, reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake 15 - 20 minutes longer. Pie is done when a knife inserted halfway between the center and edge of pie comes out clean. Remove custard pie from oven and cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or chilled with fresh whipped cream.
